A Letter to Grandad (2026)
On a journey through the rich iconography of Saudi Arabia, director Razan Alsoghayer captures the belongings and landscapes connected to her grandfather’s memory for the short film A Letter to My Grandfather.
Shooting on film in her hometown in Al Ahsa’a Oasis, Alsoghayer approached the project as a pathway to healing after her grandfather’s passing, finding visual poetry in his environment and the curiosity that rose to the surface.
Reengaging with his experience of blindness and how this shaped his understanding, A Letter to My Grandfather seeks to frame his perspective through deep cultural symbolism, imagining how he envisaged the world and the people close to him.
